KATHY CULLEN
Founder
Retired teacher of 25 years who found animal rights in 2017 and thus began the journey which led to the opening of her own sanctuary in 2023. When she’s not handing out hugs & kisses (and maybe a snack or two) to the residents at Jolene’s Retreat she’s listening to music be it from her favorite playlists or live, hiking with Charlie, reading, enjoying and discovering incredible vegan food, attending animal rights actions & events, and being grateful for having two of the most amazing kids on the planet!
DON McCLARY
All-Purpose Team Member
I wear many hats here at Jolene's Retreat, helping ensure the sanctuary runs smoothly and all the animals receive the care they deserve. I've embraced a plant-based lifestyle for over seven years, aligning my personal values with the sanctuary's mission.
Whether tending to animals, maintaining the grounds, or assisting in day-to-day operations, I do what I can when it's needed.
LOGAN CULLEN
Graphic Design
Logan has been vegan since they were 15 and is the visual artist at the heart of Jolene’s Retreat — the creator of our logo, our merchandise, our signs, and all the drawings of our rescued-residents. Besides pitching in around the sanctuary Logan is a nail artist (@logan5nails), a songwriter, and a lover of old, scrongly dogs.
CARLA CABRAL
Animal Care
Carla Cabral has dedicated her life to working with animals, blending over a decade as an ER Certified Veterinary Technician and research scientist with her passion for animal rights advocacy. Now a vegan activist, Carla works tirelessly to end animal agriculture and connect people with the most vulnerable among us. As the lead organizer of the Animal Care Working Group of Direct Action Everywhere, she hosts sanctuary workdays, pigeon first aid events, and more throughout Northern California, striving to inspire compassion and action for exploited animals.
