The Chickens
KEN
Meet Ken, a wonderful 2-year-old Bantam rooster who came to us in June 2024 after his caretakers discovered that roosters weren’t allowed in their neighborhood. Realizing they needed help, they reached out to us, and we were more than happy to give Ken a new home where he could live without worry. Ken is a total character, with a love for crowing that fills the air around the sanctuary. He’s often found in friendly back-and-forth crowing contests with his brother, Little Boy, as they exchange their signature calls. Full of love for everyone, Ken finds joy in roaming around the pasture flaunting his fabulousness.

LITTLE BOY
Meet Little Boy, the proud and charismatic top rooster of our sanctuary. Little Boy came to us with Ken in June 2024 after their previous caretakers discovered that roosters weren’t allowed in the city. Since then, Little Boy has taken charge as the leader of the flock, always looking out for his fellow chickens and making sure everyone is well cared for. His crow is the loudest around, and he’s not shy about making sure the whole sanctuary knows he’s in charge. Little Boy also loves to woo our newest lady residents, and it’s not uncommon to find him surrounded by his three lovely hens, all vying for the attention of their #1 man. Little Boy’s strong personality and protective nature make him an unforgettable presence here at the sanctuary.

GADREEL
Meet Gadreel, our sweet and shy Bantam rooster who was rescued from the recent fires in Altadena, California. We were so thrilled to be able to provide a forever home for him and his 3 sisters. Gadreel spent his entire life in a small, dirty cage, and we’re so glad to see him finally thriving in a spacious, safe environment. His peaceful nature shines through as he keeps a respectful distance from the more dominant roosters, Little Boy and Ken, preferring to quietly observe and find his own space. It’s heartwarming to watch Gadreel explore the large grass pasture, pecking, scratching, and soaking in the sunshine—experiencing freedom as well as watermelon, blueberries and more, for the first time in his life. He may be a bit shy, but Gadreel is truly a loving soul, and we’re so excited to watch him continue to blossom in his new, happy home.

BRENDA
Meet Brenda, one of the resilient hens we rescued from the recent fires in Altadena. Miraculously unscathed, she was saved from a backyard breeding situation along with her companions, Gadreel and Unnamed, even though the area around them had burned to the ground. Brenda is a true survivor with a voice that can’t be missed—she’s a talker! Whether she’s peeping, clucking, or squawking, Brenda loves to express herself as she explores her new, free life. Her stunning plumage is a sight to behold, with rich, vibrant feathers that shine in the sunlight as she moves through the pasture. Brenda’s inquisitive nature keeps her constantly on the move, always discovering new things and getting to know her surroundings. We are so happy to see her thriving and enjoying her freedom, and we’re excited to watch her grow into the confident and curious hen she was always meant to be.

STANLEY
Meet Stanley, one of the four resilient chickens rescued from the Altadena fires in California. Stanley is a very quiet and demure hen, with a gentle spirit that’s as small as her petite Bantam frame. While she may not draw attention with loud clucks or energetic movements, Stanley has a quiet grace that captures the heart of everyone who meets her. She’s a little shy, preferring to observe the world around her with wide, curious eyes before carefully venturing out to explore. Despite her reserved nature, Stanley brings a sense of calm and wonder to the sanctuary. Her curiosity is ever-present, as she slowly discovers new things in her safe, spacious environment. Stanley’s small size and soft demeanor make her a true treasure, and we’re so grateful to see her thriving in the peace and freedom she deserves.

Unlike her more reserved companions, Roma thrives on interaction, often following people around in hopes of a treat or a good chat.
